Attention reggae fans…

I just read that the Weinstein Studio has purchased film rights to
the autobiography ("No Woman, No Cry") of reggae god Bob Marley from
his widow Rita. The biopic is set for release in 2009. Ganda neto!

Incidentally,
Marley’s youngest son, Damian, will reportedly arrive in April to do another
show at the Sofitel Philippine Plaza in Pasay City. Can’t wait.

It happened last weekend, during a three-day trip to a city in Southern Mindanao. I became a victim of a man’s verbal and physical sexual advances.

I was trained to act cool in any circumstance. Pero at the time, di ko na alam ang gagawin ko. I was afraid for my safety. Good thing people around me noticed.

Sexual harassment na daw ’yun. Dapat daw pumalag ako agad. Oh, so now it’s my fault? Thanks a lot.

To girls out there, be very very wary of men around you. Some guys have the gall to pin the blame on you–you get groped because you happen to be pretty.

A quick search led me to this website: http://www.eeoc.gov/facts/fs-sex.html

Just want to share what I’ve learned.

Facts About Sexual Harassment

Sexual harassment is a form of sex discrimination that violates Title VII of the US Civil Rights Act of 1964.

Unwelcome sexual advances, requests for sexual favors, and other verbal or physical conduct of a sexual nature constitutes sexual harassment when submission to or rejection of this conduct explicitly or implicitly affects an individual’s employment, unreasonably interferes with an individual’s work performance or creates an intimidating, hostile or offensive work environment.

Sexual harassment can occur in a variety of circumstances, including but not limited to the following:

  • The victim as well as the harasser may be a woman or a man. The victim does not have to be of the opposite sex.

  • The harasser can be the victim’s supervisor, an agent of the employer, a supervisor in another area, a co-worker, or a non-employee.

  • The victim does not have to be the person harassed but could be anyone affected by the offensive conduct.

  • Unlawful sexual harassment may occur without economic injury to or discharge of the victim.

  • The harasser’s conduct must be unwelcome.

It is helpful for the victim to directly inform the harasser that the conduct is unwelcome and must stop. The victim should use any employer complaint mechanism or grievance system available.

When investigating allegations of sexual harassment, EEOC looks at the whole record: the circumstances, such as the nature of the sexual advances, and the context in which the alleged incidents occurred. A determination on the allegations is made from the facts on a case-by-case basis.

Prevention is the best tool to eliminate sexual harassment in the workplace. Employers are encouraged to take steps necessary to prevent sexual harassment from occurring. They should clearly communicate to employees that sexual harassment will not be tolerated.

They can do so by establishing an effective complaint or grievance process and taking immediate and appropriate action when an employee complains.

Shooting and Cursing

Bakit ba binabasa pa ng tao ang horoscope? Horoscopes suck!

Do you wanna know what my horoscope today is? “Things are changing fast and furious — you should be thrilled. Prepare for rewards”

Thrilled? Rewards? Rewards! My mom is in the hospital and I’m penniless. The cost of antibiotics is so fu***** high these days. I feel helpless. I feel like cursing!

This is driving me crazy. I feel like shooting heads!

Last week, the DOH declared a nationwide dengue alert after 189 people from 100 barangays died from the disease. Yesterday, (Thursday) actress Cherrie Pie Picache got confined at the St. Luke’s Medical Hospital because of the same infection.

Sleepless

August 22nd, 2005 by jayceecruz

Why am I having trouble sleeping? It’s been like this for a week now. Some nights, I would lie on my bed–tossing and turning. On other nights naman, I would dream of many things and wake up feeling weak and tired. There was one morning, nanaginip ako… kasali daw ako sa "Extra Challenge."  The show made contestants roam the whole of Malate. Imagine how exhausted I was when I woke up.

Anyway, here are some tips (from the Yahoo Sleep Disorder Center) for all you girls and boys who are also having a hard time snoozing.

Set a schedule
Go to bed at a set time each night and get up at the same time each morning. Disrupting this schedule may lead to insomnia.

Exercise
Try to exercise 20 to 30 minutes a day. Daily exercise often helps people sleep. For maximum benefit, try to get your exercise about 5 to 6 hours before going to bed.

Avoid caffeine, nicotine, and alcohol
Avoid drinks that contain caffeine, which acts as a stimulant and keeps people awake.

Relax before bed
A warm bath, reading, or another relaxing routine can make it easier to fall sleep.

Sleep until sunlight
Sunlight helps the body’s internal biological clock reset itself each day.

Don’t lie in bed awake
If you can’t get to sleep, don’t just lie in bed. Do something else, like reading, watching television, or listening to music, until you feel tired. The anxiety of being unable to fall asleep can actually contribute to insomnia.

Control your room temperature
Maintain a comfortable temperature in the bedroom. Extreme temperatures may disrupt sleep or prevent you from falling asleep.

See a doctor if you’re sleeping problem continues
